Meaningful Use certification

The iKnowMed EHR is a community-based oncology EHR developed by McKesson Specialty Health in collaboration with physicians in the US Oncology Network. Designed for oncology practices, it has received complete EHR Certification by the Office of the National Coordinator. With Meaningful Use training and tools, iKnowMed has helped more than 90 percent of participating practices attest to the Meaningful Use criteria. The iKnowMed EHR is capable of qualifying practices for ARRA funding.

This EHR is certified in both the first and second years of Meaningful Use. The first year must be completed and attested by Feb. 28, 2013. The second year of Meaningful Use requires eligible practices to use a patient portal. The iKnowMed EHR allows eligible practitioners to utilize the McKesson Specialty Health My Care PlusSM patient portal. The portal currently provides secure online access to patient health records.

The HITECH Act of 2009 aims to encourage more physicians to use an EHR. The HITECH Act’s Title IV includes incentives for EHRs that meet the Meaningful Use criteria. Physicians must meet 20 of the 25 objectives in Stage 1 of the Meaningful Use program to qualify for incentives.
